Bio

Lin Shih-Hsiung was born in Yilan, Taiwan in 1961. He has loved art and literature since he was a child and read many literary works such as Shakespeare and Don Quijote in secondary school, which laid the foundation for his future artistic creation. When he was an adult, he was forced to engage in photography and design-related work due to economic and environmental pressures, but he has continued to devote himself to the creation of art. He remembered that when he was young, he travelled to Hualien with his parents, saw the magnificence of the Taroko Gorge, and was amazed by its majesty. In the past two decades, he often went to Taroko to sketch. Combining the texture of rocks, and the turbulence of rivers with his understanding, he created one after another fantastic painting. Taroko, one of Taiwan's national parks, is named after the Taiwanese indigenous people who settled here the Taroko people. With winding trails, piercing crags, lush forests, tranquil valleys and serene scenery, Taroko is famous for its gorges and cliffs. It is ethereal but imposing. It is profound but majestic.

Statement
For me, art is an understanding of life transformed from the contact and feeling in life. This kind of understanding comes from informal thinking, so the paintings are rich in fantastic, odd and dreamlike scenes. My style has rich colours and bold lines. Compositional perspectives trans-cend spatial experience. Let the thinking run on the canvas and flow in the real space field at the same time.
