Bio

1 year History of Design- Brighton Art College 1982
Foundation in Art and Design - Central School of Art 1985
BA Hons Degree in Fine Art -St Martins School of Art, London 1986-89
Celia has a studio at Binnel Studios on the Isle of Wight which houses a collective of 7 professional artists. She moved to the Island in 2001 having built up her painting career in London.
Her landscapes are as much psychological as real. Moody, vibrant, bursting with energy, her paintings draw the viewer in and take them on a visual journey. The brushwork is deft and swift with a vibrant use of colour. Her paintings shout joy and optimism but can be brooding too in the tradition of the great British painters, Hitchens, Nash, Heron. Celia use Wallace Seymour acrylics on canvas and use both brushes and scrapers to make her marks. The landscape is usually the reference point to visually express herself and her reaction to the landscape rather than a true representation of what she sees. She paints purely from memory to really captivate her expression of the place and her inner con-sciousness. Celia never plans a painting in advance she simply starts with some broad brushstrokes and the paintings journey begins and takes its own path in tune with her subconscious. Her paintings have become a visual diary over the last 10 years.
When Celia first ventured into landscape in 2011 her paintings were very much based on the land-scape around her on the island but as they have progressed, they have become much more about the artist and reflections of her response to landscapes she has encountered in her travels abroad over the last few years.
Celia has been exhibiting extensively across the UK for the past 30 years and has recently exhibited at Florence Biennale X111 where she won the prestigious ‘Lorenzo il Magnifico ‘award for 2nd place in the Painting category.
