Water is an essential blessing for all living things. Birds gather at a pond filled with water to rest their wings. Beautiful cherry and almond trees cast their shade along the water’s edge. On holidays, people gather on the benches to enjoy flower viewing and picnics. Looking down, you can see wild grasses full of vitality, growing steadily as they bask in the gentle light of spring. On the calm, mirror-like surface of the water, migratory birds and fish occasionally create gentle ripples, while the spray from the fountain sparkles in the soft light. Nearby, grey herons and egrets hide among the rocks and grasses, quietly waiting. This artwork brings together elements of nature that evoke a sense of peace, a feeling shared by people in Japan and around the world. Surely, if such tranquil watersides are protected in every country, people’s hearts will be healed, and they will come to cherish peace more deeply. I created this work with a simple prayer: “May this peaceful scenery spread across the world.” This is a slightly magical artwork in which the ripples appear to shift and change depending on the viewer’s perspective, just like the surface of real water. Please step into this peaceful world and enjoy a leisurely stroll.
