ORIGIN'S BREATH

創造の息吹

22 01 2026

Concept by Lisa Galletti Senior Art Curator

Before a form exists, before thought finds a direction, before an image condenses in the gaze, there is a breath. It is not air, not sound, not visible movement. It is an original vibration, a silent tension that crosses matter and awakens it from within. It is the first act of creation, the invisible breath that precedes every gesture and makes every birth possible. Origin does not appear as a sudden event, but as a slow accumulation of energy. A holding back, a compression, a densening of possibility. It is the moment when the world is not yet a world, but is no longer empty. Everything is suspended in a state of latency, as if reality were listening to itself before speaking. And the breath of origin is not peaceful. It is not completed harmony. It is instability, pressure, urgency. It is a primordial force pushing from within, seeking a way to emerge. Like the first breath of a newborn body, it is a necessary and violent act at once, a critical passage between non-being and being. Every authentic creation carries this initial fracture within it, a moment in which something must leave silence and assume a form, paying the price of exposure.

In this sense, creation does not arise from will, but from a deep necessity. It is not the result of control, but of surrender. The artist does not invent origin, the artist passes through it. They allow themselves to be crossed by that primary breath which belongs not only to the individual, but to a broader, almost cosmic memory. It is a breath that moves through time, linking the human gesture to the invisible movements of the universe, to the rhythm of the tides, to the pulsation of the stars, to the secret heartbeat of matter. The breath of creation is a force without center or borders. It expands like a primordial wave, crossing bodies and worlds, making vibrate what is visible and what remains hidden. It is what holds together the microscopic and the infinite, what allows the same impulse to resonate in a seed opening, in cosmic dust gathering, in a thought taking form. To create, in this sense, means to enter into resonance with a greater order, to allow oneself to be tuned to a rhythm we did not choose, but that precedes us and exceeds us. The breath of creation, therefore, is what precedes language and makes it possible. It is a form of knowledge that does not pass through rationality, but through the body, intuition, deep perception. It is the moment when the inside begins to press outward, when imagination is not yet image, but tension, warmth, vibration. An energy that does not ask to be explained, but embodied. Every origin is fragile. Every beginning is exposed to the risk of not being fulfilled. And yet it is precisely in this precariousness that its cosmic power resides. Origin does not promise stability, but possibility. It offers not certainty, but openness. It is an unstable and fertile territory, a zone of passage where chaos is not yet order, but no longer formless. It is there, in that vibrating threshold between nothingness and form, that art finds its most authentic space, at the exact point where meaning is not yet fixed and everything, once again, can happen.

With “ORIGIN’S BREATH – 創造の息吹”, M.A.D.S. Art Gallery inaugurates the 2026 exhibition cycle by inviting artists to return to this primordial state, to question the moment in which creation is still breath and not language, impulse and not representation. To linger within that invisible threshold where the work does not yet exist, but already claims its presence. It is an invitation to work with origin not as a concept, but as an experience. To explore what precedes form, what vibrates before the sign, what pulses before the image. To give body to that breath that crosses darkness and renders it fertile, that transforms silence into possibility, that opens the time of creation. This exhibition is therefore a return to what makes art necessary, vital, irreducible. It is the recognition that every work is born from an invisible breath, from a deep tension that seeks to emerge even before it is understood. A call that does not impose itself, but persists, that does not shout, but never stops making itself felt. It is the moment when the artist listens to that original pulse and chooses to follow it, accepting uncertainty, risk, and the fragility of beginnings. In that initial breath, fragile and powerful at once, creation finds its truest origin, not as an answer, but as an opening, not as a finished form, but as a promise. It is there that the creative gesture reignites, that time begins to move again, that art returns to being a necessary act. An act of birth. A first breath that, once again, gives rise to everything.
