Encaustic painting is a painting technique in which a molten mixture of wax and resin is applied to a rigid support and has been used for over 2000 years. This wax mixture, called medium, has to be heated to make it liquid so that it can be used for painting with a brush or hot spatula. The different layers of wax that are painted on a rigid surface have to be fused together with a blowtorch.
