Title: Need

“Need” is an empathetic approach to the concept of longing for more out of life. The black and white aspects of the paintings appeal to pop culture moments of expressed dissatisfaction. This piece is supposed to feel liminal on its own but satisfied when shown with another piece from the collection.

The two pieces “Existence” and “Need” are a part of a larger collection of twelve paintings from Mackenzie’s Senior Thesis series Theophanies. These works in particular are about universality of the human experience and exploration of life.
