Jac Kritzinger

Photographer

Bio

Jac Kritzinger I grew up on the rough cutting room floor of rosy childhood memories and bleak sociopolitical unrest that was South Africa in the eighties and nineties, and eventually completed my formal education with an Honours degree in film studies. Following that, reeling like a thief in the halls of my own life, I soon got lost in a myriad of menial jobs that would have made Bukowski weep. Instead of finding solace in wine and darkened rooms, however, I gradually found myself all the more compelled to venture out into the world alone with a Nikon, drunk on the Truth that started shimmering behind the confines of what we call reality, forcing me to look much closer both within and without. It hasn’t always been easy and the long, long road is far from over; through all the twists and turns I have come to view myself as a poet first, with light being my medium and Muse, and a photographer second. Searcher, sage and fool also spring to mind, in no particular order. In the end, after all these years, I feel blessed to be calling this honest work. I have participated in numerous photographic exhibitions around the world, and my fine art prints form part of private collections in South Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. I am currently working on a book exploring the visual, existential and spiritual relationships of time and place between South Africa, China and Zanzibar, following an arduous journey of almost two years in the midst of global turmoil.
