Dr Michelle Cox obtained an Honours degree in Visual Arts at Sydney College of Arts, majoring in Sculpture, after attending fine art at Julian Ashton’s art school in Sydney’s Rocks. She started off as a painter and loves working with colour and pattern, and objects she finds or admires, such as gemstones. She lives in Melbourne, Australia, and extends her love of science and the environment into her art practice.
After a period of making mixed-media sculptures, she has come full circle with her art practice and is creating gouache paintings on Clairefontaine paper. Her paintings explore colour, light, reflections and shadow on rainy nights and city streets lit up at night. She works from sometimes abstract unique photographs of people in the city, which inspire her passion for light and colour. She has recently exhibited at ART3F Monaco Art fair and Art Muc, and is currently being represented by Monat Gallery, Madrid. She has a group show coming up in Madrid at Monat Gallery and a couple of shows with Arrival Gallery in Athens and Brooklyn.
