This piece is fundamentally about grief, but the image is replete with symbolism, which I think can hold many different meanings for people and therefore lead to many interpretations. But my hope is that the overarching message is about life continuing. Even if you carry grief with you, always, eventually some type of “truce” or co-existence can settle in.
