«In my photographic art I deal with the theme of perception through the question of “reality or illusion”, freely according to the motto: nothing as it seems».

Barbara Goertz‘s abstract photographic works are based on the artful superimposition of macro-photographs and their partial overpainting. The artist does not see herself only as a photographer nor as a painter: her multi-layered photographic works live from both art forms. She does not simply blend them but she creates synergistic effects, which not only lend the images special liveliness and depth but, in their aesthetic inseparability, they also give rise to new visual worlds. Her compositions are characterised by the duality of inside and outside but also by the interplay in the space between.
She creates abstract spatial pictorial worlds, whose unusual and sensitive composition captivates the viewer and invites him to transform his accustomed gaze. With her art, she would like to encourage the audience to explore and question the limits and contradictions of perception habits.
