Regarding Mads Gallery International art call, related to "ARTOXIC", where we are invited to explore ideas that allow us to "look at the world in another way", and where "toxicity becomes a virtuous means to courageously follow the truest to oneself” …. I tell you that since 2015, I had already generated "non-typical" artworks and "highly discussed" due to their meaning and environment and the scientific profile of the artist. This is the case of the artwork that I present to you: “EGO SUM QUI SUM” (“I AM that I AM”). Responding to my "Figuratively Abstract" style and with strong "neo-impressionist" influences, this artwork, which is an oil on canvas measuring 60 cm x 60 cm x 2.4 cm, represents the face of an "alien" very poorly defined but easily recognizable, and according to its author, "depicts the artist's image (EGO SUM QUI SUM) of another life in another place within this space-time of our universe." Getting to know the call of Mads Gallery “ARTOXIC”, I decided to accept this challenge very seriously and I decided to shed my utmost conventional profile to show and explore themes that are riskier and unconventional. This led me to adopt a more "toxic" attitude (in the good artistic sense of the word) and to take risks that time before I would not have considered or dared to show in the dozens of exhibitions throughout 20 uninterrupted years of artistic activity. To achieve this, I had to put aside some of my most habitual habits and thought processes: The Scientific Method, Astronomical Science, Cosmography, Mysticism... Instead of focusing on logic and rationality, I allowed myself to experiment with my emotions and ideas that he had always considered "too strange" or "inappropriate". I also had to accept that my artistic decisions and choices could be misinterpreted or frowned upon by some members of my audience. Despite these concerns, my new creative and parallel approach, which has been with me for years, allowed me to embrace themes and approaches that would previously have seemed too risky. I incorporated elements that were considered "weird" or "taboo" by the average audience and incorporated them into my artistic production in a way that I could convey the message I wanted to communicate. This allowed me to connect with an audience that often feels ignored and is drawn to offbeat themes and approaches. In summary, my creative process has benefited from my ability to undress my logical, pragmatic, and scientific profile and to take a more daring, transgressive, and unconventional attitude, we would say "TOXIC" but very gratifying because it allows me to express part of my personality. To my heart's content I believe that this approach has enriched my artistic production and has allowed me to create more authentic and significant works and, why not, unusual ones, like the one that is presented for your consideration.
