Paradiso
I completed this acrylic on stretched canvas painting in Ibiza, Spain in the historic summer of 2020, but it was in progress & dated on the back in 2019, the last summer before the World changed.
I´m very happy to show this artwork & continue moving between two distinct médiums & styles; watercolours on paper & acrylic on canvas, (resting my pastels) to see & express things through different eyes, put more time in my studio & expand this series of works.
In this painting ‘Paradiso' is a scene i´d sketched down on paper one hot afternoon, i wanted summer life while keeping minimal & uncluttered, allowing space to appreciate each element.
On the hilltop is “La Casa” with two storeys & three large arches, typical of many classical Spanish homes, along with palms that adorne most casas in Ibiza and it’s surrounding Mediteranian Islands. At the same time “El Toro” the Bull, famous to all Spanish, stands proudly overlooking it's lands.
The sun is a more hypnotic set of rings to radiate and pulsate that intense summer heat we feel.
Clouds that build in the hot breeze, as ocean waves in the sky, and darken underneath with the humidity drawn in.
The dark tanned slender body silhouette represents the exotic mix of beautiful Spanish and visiting women of the World who are drawn to this Island and found like jewels in all it’s places. Ready to dive into the pool to refresh, the water a colour reflection of her fiery passion & heartbeat that fuels this 'Paradiso' I live in.
The sky yellow & the land blue… is the scene in my mind...
Please enjoy looking into & feeling the painting, l hope it strikes a good place to remain in your memory.
The technique used is an under-layering of paint colours, building the painting with a depth & texture that subtley blends & works it’s way into some of the final layers.
I'm open to discuss commissioning similar works of different scenes to interpret in current & larger scale.
