A fox stands quietly in a field of vivid green. He appears alert yet withdrawn, as if listening to something beyond the visible world. Neither entirely animal nor entirely symbol, the figure embodies a recurring theme in Heidi Mumenthaler’s work: the presence of beings that seem to carry an inner life of their own.
Painted without preparatory sketches, the image emerged through observation of colour, form and intuition. The fox does not tell a story. Instead, it invites the viewer into a moment of stillness, where curiosity and mystery coexist. As in many of Mumenthaler’s works, the subject remains open. What we see may be a fox, a memory, a companion, or simply a fleeting encounter that resists explanation.
