Scent of Spring - Bridging Worlds in Bloom : 春の香り- 咲きほこる花が結ぶ世界
2025
Info
Technique: Mixed Media - Handcrafted cherry blossoms made from natural tree bark, natural gemstones (including opal, quartz, and fluorite), and an original sakura fragrance.
As winter fades away and the gentle breath of spring fills the air, people in Japan joyfully begin planning their ohanami (cherry blossom viewing) to welcome the blooming sakura. “What shall I wear today?” “Which accessories will match perfectly?” This interactive artwork is completed through the viewer’s own sense of joyful anticipation and excitement while imagining the preparations for a special outing.
The circular ornament in the background pays homage to the Art Nouveau master Alphonse Mucha, inspired by my experience exhibiting in the Czech Republic. Handcrafted cherry blossoms, individually shaped from natural tree bark, gently surround this motif, creating a beautiful connection between the everyday and the extraordinary.
Each natural stone arranged within the frame possesses its own unique character. Viewers can discover and enjoy the distinctive play of light radiating from every gemstone, from the iridescent glow of opals to the tiny rainbows that appear within quartz and fluorite depending on the viewing angle.
Furthermore, this artwork extends beyond the visual through the gentle addition of an original sakura fragrance. The softly drifting scent evokes cherished memories of past cherry blossom viewings while intertwining them with the joyful anticipation of future springs. It is a multi-sensory work created to allow viewers to fully experience the essence of spring.
