The painting refers to machismo, a term describing (according to one of several definitions) men who strictly prevent women in relationships and at home from using their intellect or any sort of talent. They often cannot find the courage to leave the aggressor even though they are being humiliated or physically or mentally harmed. The work points out that domestic violence is increasing, especially towards women.
