Tomáš Mařas
Painter
Bio
Czech artist Tomáš Mařas was born in Prague and has lived in Liberec since 2017. Origi-nally a glassblower, he has been drawing and painting since childhood. Despite not being formally artistically educated, he has designed glasses sets, etched glass wall motifs for interiors, made illustrations or large-format oil paintings. He has also made some tattoo designs. In the first decade of the century he intensively pursued making his own ceramic works. Lately he focused solely on paintings, drawings and small graphic arts. For painting he mostly uses acrylic colors. He is also familiar with oil colors, watercolor, for drawing he uses ink, markers or pencil. In his work he seeks through the darker sides of human nature and soul, but he also projects environmental themes or those of uncertain future. He says that he projects his own ideas and messages into his works, however it's the spectator who forms them based on their own experiences.
Statement
The topics may come unexpectedly as dreams or visions. The process of creation helps me sort my thoughts and makes me ponder on their meaning. Painting is the process of turning thoughts and fears into a specific form. I project my own ideas and messages into his works, however it's the spectator who forms them based on their own experiences.
