Mixed Media Artist

Bio

Eleanor is a London-based film producer, screenwriter and artist, although art for her is the most primal and cathartic form of expression, and she has been drawing and painting ever since she was a small child. Having graduated from a foundation year in fine art at Oxford Brookes University in 2007, Eleanor’s early academic engagement was devoted to the relationship be-tween the image and the word, and she went on to graduate from SOAS, University of London and MA Goldsmiths, University of London with specialisms in Visual Anthropology, Documen-tary Filmmaking, History of Art, archaeology, Middle Eastern and Islamic studies and English literature. Eleanor’s discovery of herself as a filmmaker was an epiphany for her, where she could combine her passion for the image and the word into one. Eleanor is additionally a graduate of The National Film and Television School and most of her career has been focused on media re-search and assistant producing. Her MA film, ‘Because She Can’, won an international award for Human Spirit at Documentaries Without Borders Festival, Delaware, USA; the film has also had multiple screenings in Dubai and internationally. Unlike in other mediums, Eleanor’s art is pri-marily autobiographical, stemming from her emotions. Eleanor has always drawn instinctively; it is her default method of expression, and she makes art from a combination of observation and imagination. She believes each portrait is a method of communication of what it is to be human, and she draws portraits of the literary characters she creates to familiarise with them. When El-eanor started to make documentary films in 2016, she discovered how to give a film-like quality to my images. Since the pandemic most of Eleanor’s art has been sketched and drawn from journals. The journal for Eleanor is the medium of growth in which to make observations about the inner world; she has been keeping them since she was a young child. Eleanor views her art practice as a necessity to function and create in other ways. In her spare time, Eleanor currently works on improving her Arabic and spends time with her partner and cat.

Statement
