During her travels in China and Japan Giulia was fascinated by Buddhist and Zen aesthetic principles about art and nature. According to this philosophy the artist is an integral part of Nature and should observe it carefully to grasp the essence of it and to achieve the unity between nature and humans. His ego vanishes into nature to be part of a whole where there are no distinctions
In this painting the peonies and the girl are not only part of the same universe but they ARE THE SAME UNIVERSE. They relate to each other entirely becoming one thing that dissolves into the wholeness of everything.
