Bio

Theodora M Stougiannou, was born in Greece, in 1992 and spend most of her years living in both Greece and Canada. During her school years, she undertook classes in modern art methods and byzantine iconography methods, as well as a degree in music theory. Though she later chose to follow through to a biomedical career, painting was always a way for her to express herself and escape the stress of everyday reality. As far as technical art skills, she can work with a wide variety of materials, including watercolour, gouache, acrylics and oils, as well as ink. Years of expressing herself through her art has helped her learn new techniques and ways of working with colours; she draws inspiration from both science and mythology, with star-filled sky depictions being a prominent characteristic in most of her works. With regards to gallery work she has recently started participating in both physical and online art exhibitions, as well as some competitions, both within Greece as well as abroad.

Statement
My artworks represent a mix between flowing, liquid lines and star-filed spaces and landscapes, which is often a metaphor based on my own experiences and dreams. I often choose to portray dreamscapes, or mix real and fantastical or surreal elements together, as one would expect to occur within the confines of a dream. I often get inspired by shapes in the natural world, such as animals, which I then incorporate into my work, along with lines to depict a sense of flow throughout the painting. Most of the times I like to incorporate or create paintings with a central focus of a star-filled sky, which I often like to use as a metaphor for dreams and subconscious processes; it is also something which reflects back to me and my own life, spending my childhood in multiple places. Though landscapes may change, the sky will always be there to guide and inspire us.
