Maurizio D'Andrea

Painter

Bio

From a young age, Maurizio D'Andrea (1967, Naples, Italy) has shown a keen interest in psychology, devoting himself to studying the theories of Jung and Freud. This approach allowed him to immerse himself in the depths of the unconscious and collective archetypes, contributing greatly to shaping his artistic vision.
When he was only 16 years old, he started his painting adventure, bringing to life mental landscapes that were a tangible reflection of the intricate interior of his mind, deeply permeated by the unconscious.
Over time, he has experimented with different artistic tools, including brushes, palette knives, rollers, and rags, to express his unique vision and the complexity of his thoughts.
D'Andrea's works are characterized by bold colors and intense painterly gestures, often described as neurotic. He has studied the art of painters such as Jackson Pollock, focusing on his free and gestural gestures, and also Emilio Vedova, an Italian abstractionist painter. His art can be classified in the field of lyrical-informal abstractionism, in which emotions and sensations are expressly communicated through the use of form, color and gestures. His works represent an immersion in the unconscious and a deep exploration of the human mind.

ARTISTIC STATEMENT:
“My artistic journey delves into the hidden depths of the mind, a journey inspired by the pioneering work of Sigmund Frеud and Carl Jung. These visionaries illuminated the concept of the unconscious, a realm where layers of shared human thoughts, desires and experiences reside, manifesting themselves through symbols, myths and recurring images.
In my art I use abstraction as a tool for transformation. Pure abstraction, in its essence, seeks to distill the core of an object or idea, eliminating the direct representation of reality. It is through this abstraction that I try to bypass the surface and plunge into the unconscious, where the universal archetypes lie. These archetypes emerge in my works as repeated forms and symbols, forging a visual language that transcends language and cultural barriers.
My creative journey is shaped by a rich tapestry of influences. American Abstract Expressionism, particularly the New York School, has left an indelible mark on my understanding of abstract art and gestural painting: Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Robert Motherwell guided my exploration of spontaneity, emotional expression through color, and conveying deep meanings through paintings.
What motivates me is the search for the universal, a search inspired by Plato's concept of the universal form. I try to capture these universal forms in my art, revealing the deep connections between shared human experiences.
In Turin, the cradle of artistic innovation and creativity, I founded the Movimento Artistico Introversico Radicale. This movement advocates the purity of interiority in art, encouraging collaboration, experimentation and the liberation of creative expression from commercial constraints. It aims to engage viewers in a visceral and individual relationship with art, in which the artist, the artwork and the viewer engage in a profound dialogue. My journey extends beyond traditional painting to include digital art, where I continue to explore the depths of the human mind. My digital works delve into inner vortices, mental projections and geometric spatialities. Through my software "Artetc," I create fusion and spatial overlap of shapes, lines and arcs, unlocking new dimensions of artistic expression.
Success, in my eyes, as an artist is when my work transcends personal expression and becomes a source of connection, contemplation and inspiration for others. It is about effectively communicating complex emotions and concepts through art, leaving a lasting impact on individuals and society as a whole.
Art is a mirror that reflects the soul of society, a powerful medium for cultural expression, social commentary and exploration of human experiences. It challenges convention, provokes discussion and enriches our lives by promoting creativity, critical thinking and emotional connections. It preserves our history, documents our culture and leaves a timeless legacy.
My goal is to share my art with a global audience, allowing people from different cultures to connect with my work and find personal meaning in it. I want to convey the "language of the unconscious" and demonstrate that abstract art can transcend cultural and language barriers, touching the chords of humanity that bind us all.
