Abbey Ruins and Oscar Wilde prison

2020

Info

Title: Abbey Ruins and Oscar Wilde prison
Year: 2020
Size: 33x43x3 cm
Technique: Oil on canvas

Description:
I was inspired by the magnificent sight of these walls of what once had been one of the bigger abbeys in the UK. The atmosphere of the place is still there. Using the pallete knife gives the reality of the flint stone now as it is the foundation of the structure. Behind is the red building of the old prison where Oscar Wilde wrote his 'Ballad of Reading Gaol' whilst a prisoner.
