Technique: Modeling paste on canvas

Using modeling paste, a palette knife and unconventional tools such as a wallpaper smoother and grout palette, this piece was an exploration on harsh realities vs. options, and the tension of feeling helpless. Using only movement to create compositional direction while being limited to one medium and no color, created “secret passage ways” of grey areas that revealed themselves as light changed throughout the day. This play be-tween the permanence of structure, the movement of light and the revelation of shadows make harsh realities, though true, become not necessarily the only option.
