Hagemaru - Masanobu Oda

Bio

Masanobu Oda was born in Osaka on February 10, 1962. He loved drawing pictures since he was a child and drew only glamorous actors in the monthly roadshows that his sister bought for him. After graduation, he joined an advertising agency, quit his irregular job as a designer when he got married and worked in the real estate business. At the age of 42, he became mentally ill, became unable to work, and divorced. Since then, he has lost contact with his daughter. He was forced to be in and out of the hospital after repeated suicide attempts. At the age of 54, his wife, whom he left when he was 50, died of cancer, and he could not bear the loneliness. He was also diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder (later corrected as a developmental disorder) which forced him to be hospitalized. To drown his sorrows, he starts painting again, and again encounters the free line, which he starts posting on Facebook. In 2019, that post was discovered by up-and-coming abstract painter Kiichiro Ogawa, and at Ogawa's suggestion, he exhibited at the ART POSHTELS presents HAGEMARU exhibition at the Catalyst Hotel in Shinsaibashi, Osaka, where many up-and-coming artists (including Takuma Tanaka and other famous artists. He sold 14 pieces, the highest amount for an exhibition at that hotel, even though he was not well-known at all among those who had exhibited. In 2020, he exhibited at Kobe Motomachi Ayuburindo in 2020 and in Paris, Italy and France in 2020. In 2021Exhibits in Austria and also receives offers to exhibit in Italy, the U.S., and the Netherlands; 2022Diagnosed with adhd for a year and focuses on semi-recuperating. In late 2023, exhibited at the Asian Art Fair in Hakata, where he begins to resume his activities. He was electrified in Times Square Garden in New York City. In 2024, he will have a solo exhibition in Ginza, Tokyo, a virtual exhibition in Waterloo Station, England, and a solo exhibition at the Crete Art Fair, WOC, in Greece, and offers for a solo exhibition at Tapropan, based in London and Rome, but has not yet decided whether to exhibit or not.
