Description
The Hysterica Exhibition asked me to display some of my deepest fears and disturbances. In “Save Our Youth” I have done so, for my main concern regarding our modern world is the condition of our children. The information society we now live in is yet to be programmed correctly, overwhelming every one of us with negative information which leads to hysteria and fear. As a consequence, many of us resign to lower behaviours such as drug abuse, binging on Netflix or social media, excessive partying etc. Our children are now faced with the immense pressure of “fixing the world”, whilst also being exposed to maximum negative information. I fear that this doesn't go well together, and that many youths will suffer tremendous depression. The woman on the left side of the work is abusing pills, signifying the huge amounts of people escaping reality through drugs or TV. In the centre you can see a red ghostly figure, it represents our invisible demons. The over-all chaos of this work represents a state of disarray somehow being held together. The intention of this piece is to create feelings of reflection, as to where we are going, what we are doing, and why we should not stay on this life-denying path. Progress can only come from leading by example and investing in our youth: teaching them that the digital world is not the only world and that everything will be just fine as so long as they appreciate the most important thing in life: family & friends. Each of us has to adapt a learning mindset; we have to rethink ourselves and understand what we really want out of life.
