Melanie, better known as Mel, is an self-taught (with respect to the learning-by-doing mentality) abstract artist inspired by music and life experiences, expressing unconscious feelings and re-pressed emotions without sharing her own words. All her paintings are inspired by different music artists and have been named after song titles that have influenced the piece and ex-pressed past lived emotions the most. Composed with an explosive use of color, her canvases are a fervent response to her own life stories and experiences. Connecting colors with music re-veals unseen and repressed emotions. The song comes before the brushstroke, constructed over time, from layer upon layer of abstracted gestural marks. Born in 1995 and has her roots in Spain and Italy, however she spent 24 years of her life growing up in Lucerne, Switzerland. She started her art career in New York and is now living and working in Miami.
