Kennet Wik

Digital Artist

Bio

Kennet Wik Kennet Wik, Swedish digital artist. As a child my drawing skills improved rather suddenly, overnight it seemed to me. From then on I was fascinated with drawing the things around me, nature, people. Later as a young adult I started painting in acrylic and became absorbed in it - the colors spoke to me in a way that drawing never could. At that time I was drawn to the impressionists view of nature and studied them carefully. After many years of painting landscapes and still lifes I grew dissatisfied with it, and although I tried to find another expression, I finally stopped painting. So some years passed without touching the brushes. And of course I missed it. I couldn't go back to where I had left off. Where to go then? - I started experimenting with digital painting but although I got many interesting results, the expression I was looking for didn't want to be found. By this time I had become interested in abstract art and, as is my nature, I studied first, watching documentaries on the history of abstract art. Its openness to interpretation appealed to me, its nature is emotional or, in the case of geometric abstraction, structural. I found digital painting to be a very good experimenting tool. I could very quickly try various ideas, change the palette of an image in a second, superimpose one image over another... This process would have taken me much longer with traditional mediums. I´m glad we live in digital times, I want to catch up on those lost years of painting. The landscapes are still there, but expressed in an abstract way - the focus now is on the colors, their relations to each other, and the movements underlined by the textures.
