“The color blue is the color of our planet and water - the origin of all life. Therefore, this color with all its nuances is my inspiration. I work at the University of Bayreuth as a team assistant in biology. There we deal with marine and environmental problems such as microplastics.
One can have the following thoughts when looking at the picture "Otherworld", if one includes the problems. On one hand I see our wonderful blue planet with its beauty and on the other hand I see how humans destroy a lot and really exhaust the earth. New technology brings many benefits, but it tempts us to stop seeing what is beautiful and important and often leaves us fully immersed in the digital and artificial world. Where do we go to when the earth can no longer ensure our survival? Is our path the hope for space and new planets? Shouldn't we be mindful of our world and considerate of all life, to ensure our own survival?
However, one can also consider another point of view and consider the development as positive, if the technology allows us to discover the universe and other stars and planets and our evolutionary development is not yet finished. Who knows? What is important to me is the cautionary aspect of realizing that we can still do something to stop the doom and use technology to avoid being at the end of our evolution. Therefore, I decided to name this artwork “Anderswelt". We need to rethink, or think differently to preserve the old world or discover space with other options”.
