The painting depicts a portrait of Brazilian influencer Bruna Galvao embedded in a background based on Orphic cubism, in which the colors get a dynamic quality by influencing each other.
The painting, part of the series “Lockets of Lust and Loathing” contrasts an oval portrait, reminiscent of a medieval icon, with a background pattern developed as a distorted medieval sundial. When I portrayed Bruna’s face, it was asking me: How can we live with the sadness of our desire for perfection?
