Painter

Bio

Mati Leppik Mati Leppik was born on 5th June 1941 in Tartu, Estonia. He graduated Tartu University in 1986 as MA in History of Art and has been painting ever since. He considers himself an old-school painter. In art he values greatly the principle of colour composition and all his works are built on that principle. He paints mainly in acrylic or watercolour technique. The latter was the genre in which he started his professional career with and in which he considers himself to have accomplished the most. During his career Mati Leppik has had many personal exhibitions but lately he has not felt the need to do them anymore. As he himself puts it – he is not so vain anymore. Nonetheless the artist still participates in other exhibitions. Some of the latest are Estonian Watercolour Society exhibition in Rapla, Estonia (2021) and in Võru, Estonia (2020), the 1st International Watercolour Festival in Helsinki, Finland (2019), the First International Watercolour Exhibition “Sea Unites” in Jurmala, Latvia (2018) and annually the overview exhibitions of Estonian artists in Tartu. Mati Leppik was a teacher in Tartu Children’s Art School for 20 years. He is a member of Tartu Artists Union and Estonian Watercolour Society.
