For some years before the pandemic, I had been photographing landscapes and woodlands. In the quiet of the forest there is a sense of intimacy. Unique solitary moments shared that I have tried to convey in the work. I will often combine images to give a third view of a secret. During the lockdown I experimented with a collection of forest floor studies. Dead leaves, pine cones, twigs etc. Re-edits, digitally-manipulation and painting elements, merging many photographs to build new images. The pareidolia kicked in. I see the characters, thinking of them as the spirit of the forest. I strive to create an expression in the eyes of each subject that (I hope) in turn evokes curiosity in the viewer.
