ARTISTIC STATEMENT
What would it look like if we turned our bodies inside out and started to show all of the processes that occur under our skin? This question is the root of my motivation. I create work that displays the interaction between the biological makeup of our bodies and its unpredictability. I use an additive approach to painting, layering images of human portraiture combined with scientific cellular studies. My fascination of the process of rapid cellular division results in the translation of these clusters of cells into paintings. The works of art aim to create a conversation between the outward appearance in relation to the internal and external functions and malfunctions of cells. Understanding the answers to many questions as to why and how these mutations occur are still unanswered; this is what continues to drive my work providing me with an endless source of new material.
