BIO
Sarah Myers is a self-taught artist born in Chicago in 1980. She is inspired by both ancient art and modern design, and most of all by the human face and figure. She has been working as a figurative sculptor and ceramist since 2009; in 2019, during a hiatus in her career as a sculptor, she found a new direction, full of possibilities, with paint on canvas. Her art in every medium continues to seek a unique flow of outline, a vitality of shape that identifies the subject by its most natural form.
STATEMENT
A vision of an entire world and future – brighter, larger, more full of life – can sometimes be caught in a single expression or a vivid detail; a glance, a gesture, one fleeting moment. It is this my art tries to render in solid form, to be viewed and approached; to be revisited on a different time scale, one of deliberation and of relative permanence. In science, an experiment that can be replicated is validated; in experience, a place that can be revisited is a reality. I wish my art to capture a glimpse of the beauty and splendor in human life and bring it a lasting shape, whether it is expressed as a flying curl of hair drawn in ink, or the tilt of a head caught in the robust solidity of terracotta, or a brilliant eye remembered in a stroke of bright paint.
