My name is Barbara Gottwald. I was born in Wuppertal/Germany and live now in the surroundings of Bielefeld. I am an self teached artist having done a lot of work together with other professional artists (Ulle Hees/Wuppertal, Bärbel Rothaar/Berlin, Otto Sander Tischbein/Neuenhagen, Markus Tepe/Dresden) and learning by them since 1996. But first of all I did (and still do) exercises, exercises … and studied the history of art. Since 2013 I take part in exhibitions (common and solo) in the regions of Nordrhein-Westfalen and Thüringen. The favourite techniques of mine are drawing (ink, grafit, digital), painting (acrylics, watermedia on paper, pastell) and printing (etching, engraving copper plates). My art work bases on wachting nature, people and my surroundings, sketching, discovering textures, colours and masses, and last but not least enjoying the painting or printing process. I also recognize the social and economic development in society. It´s incorporated in a lot of my work hoping that art is a way of connecting different ways of thinking and considering, hoping to build brigdes instead of confrontation. Therefore I feel a strong connection to the “Romantik” in europeen 19th century when artists tried to unite the differences between social reality and social describing…
