Bio
Myriam S. Loewenstein Painting is an inward look to a place where right and wrong, where man-made categories seem to not exist. Time stands still as thoughts and feelings flow as colors on the paper or the digital canvas. It is a strange state of calm and joy that befalls me when I paint. Sometimes I hang on to my thoughts while painting, sometimes I listen to music or to my favorite poems. When I paint, I try not to hinder the process by my idea of what should emerge, but to listen to what kind of image wants to assemble, what wants to be brought to light, like a sculptor who brings a sculpture out of a stone. It is an act of devotion to the work. I let myself be guided by shape and color. One color shows me the way to the next. I feel at the tip of my fingers that touch the (digital) canvas which colors want to be woven together like silk threads. For me the visual of interconnected colors is a form of communication. Since a fateful encounter two decades ago I have been searching for what holds the universe together in its innermost elements. Today I am a woman working in the legal field who has almost studied philosophy and cannot stop painting. Law is close to my heart because it is an almost boundless, fascinating field, like a land whose borders are expanding day by day with new court decisions and frequent legal changes. Legal doctrine has its own beauty. Philosophy has remained my joy and there have been quite a few nights when my lack of sleep was not due to my work but because an exciting text, a lecture or a new idea captivated me for too long. However, art is my freedom, my comfort, each of my phoenix wings and my love since I was a child. Painting is part of me although I have no formal training. Art allows me to play and experiment. It doesn't demand explanations but allows me to be truly myself. Art is a place where sensitivity is finally welcome. I love painting digitally but also in VR. It is quite an experience having virtual paint fly over your head while painting stars and nebulas on a night sky.
