Bio

Irina I. Agoulnik I was born in 1960 in Almaty, former capital of Kazakhstan, to a family of Russian physicists. From my early years I was surrounded by discussions about physics and astronomy, art and literature. My father, trained as nuclear physicist, unintentionally passed to me his love for visual art and sense of created beauty and harmony. Prior to coming to USA in 1993, I lived in different countries with diverse cultures and later in life - traveled around the world with my own family. All those experiences and formal training in physics and biology enhanced and shaped my perception and interpretation of the WORLD ’S BEAUTY THROUGH LENSES OF SCIENCE AND VISUAL ART. While trying my hand at watercolor, acrylics, oil on canvas, digital art and photography as a hobby, the underlying driving force of creativity was always my scientific curiosity. How is it done? Which chemical or physical law defines the symmetry of image, the color of reflection, the fluency and flow of paint? That is why when I first discovered the liquid acrylic techniques (Dutch pour, reverse dip, dirty pour, etc.), I was fascinated by the science behind it all. The fact that anyone can create a piece of art by chemically or physically changing paint’s surface tension, by playing with paint dilution or color’s weight, brings joy to my heart. Liquid acrylics with resulting intricate multi-layered cells is the best media, in my humble opinion, to represent the complexity of human relationships, romantic or not.
