Bio

Timothy Zak Yates, known by friends as Zak, is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He recognizes Tulsa's vibrant art scene, which currently offers abundant opportunities for emerging talents. Additionally, he finds inspiration and connection through his involvement in the thriving poetry community in the city. Zak's artistic journey began a few years ago, although his passion for creativity and the arts has been a lifelong companion. His pursuit of artistic development led him to the prestigious Kansas City Art Institute in 2016. Subsequently, in 2018, Zak made a pivotal move to Denver, Colorado, where he discovered a sense of belonging and cultivated meaningful relationships. Currently, he divides his time between Denver and Tulsa, cherishing the distinct experiences and personal connections each location provides. Articulating the depth and essence of his creative process remains a constant challenge for Zak. He strives to convey the profound emotions and intuitive impulses that drive his art, recognizing that such complexity defies simple explanation, as it often originates from a subconscious, elusive place. Nonetheless, Zak remains appreciative of the opportunities to share his experiences with others, valuing connection and conversation through art.

Statement
I've always been fascinated by the idea that the world each person sees is somehow fundamentally different from the world every other person sees - but these differences remain consistent, so we come to know 'red' as 'red' and 'blue' as 'blue'. Though, the question remains: is my red the same as your red? Reality, of course, is an illustration of the information around us as-portrayed by the various biological sensors all over our bodies working in-tandem with the brain - this illusion is consistent, but a subjective portrayal of an unknowable thing all the same. Furthermore, this illusion can be altered, bent, twisted, and realigned - and through the careful and deliberate act of exploring those twists and bends, and the subsequent expression of your findings - your "umwelt" - we open ourselves up to growth, change, new dialogue, and fresh experiences; it's almost as exciting as jazz.
