Bio

Beatrice Costa is an Italian artist born in Genova, by the sea. Actually she lives in the countryside of Turin, north of Italy. After Classical studies she got a degree in Art History at the University of Turin. Long experiences in the US, in Boston and San Diego: fundamental years for her human and artistic growth. In Italy she held positions as a reader and professor in Colleges and has worked as a guide in private and State Museums in Turin and Milan. Her main triple passioni is the sea, the sea and ultimately the sea. Her mantra is “ I never loose, I win or I do learn”.

As far as I remember I have always been attracted by fragmented images, patchwork fabrics, byzantine mosaics, medieval stained glass windows of french cathedrals, my degree paper for graduation. From this inclination of mine was born a strong passion for Collage technique. Whenever I see interesting images in my eyes, immediately I want to break the down . With scissors I cut them out and reassemble in new compositions with a new life, a new meaning, sometimes opposite to the beginning. Images are found in newspapers, fashion and design magazines, encyclopedias and else. Most of the time I feel like it’s the image choosing me rather than the opposite. I am totally attracted by the feminine body: this is why I deal all the time with long arms, long legs, big hands and lips. I thus tear apart these bodies and reassemble as a contemporary Dr Frankenstein. I am the creature behind the creatures. Artistic inspiration hails from the late Goya two of the ‘900 avant- garde Dada and Surrealism. I let my unconscious speak, destre, dreams , often nightmares. This work of mine is not a therapy, it’s an addiction and I am bewitched by this drug.
