"Who am i? - Get to know the artist through his/her artwork"

12.11.2024

The exhibition "UNTITLED, WHO AM I?" explores the deep and invisible connection between the artwork and its creator, guiding the audience on a journey towards the discovery of the artist and, more importantly, towards the essence of artistic creation itself. Art, as an extension of being, becomes a medium through which the observer can approach the artist's inner dimension, engaging in a constant dialogue between self and the other.

The question "Who am I?" lies at the heart of philosophical thought, dating back to Socrates, who urged his disciples with the famous "Know thyself." In this exhibition, the artist responds to this question not through words, but through their work. The creations on display are not mere aesthetic objects; they are fragmented reflections of the artist's self, shards of interiority presented to the world. Each work becomes a visible body of invisible thought, a "weaving" of perceptions that invites us to look beyond the outward appearance of art to glimpse the creator's subjectivity. Like an exploration of the *"Cartesian self"*, this exhibition questions the artist's identity as the sum of their experiences, visions, and intuitions, never falling into a conclusive definition, but rather remaining open, fluid, and indefinable. The works of art are interpreted as archetypes of the collective and individual subconscious of the artist: the forms, colors, and textures that emerge from them become powerful symbols of their internal conflict, hidden fears, and desires. As in the Jungian alchemical process, art is seen as transformation: the creative process becomes a way for the artist to "integrate" forgotten parts of their self and reveal to the world what resides in the depths of the unconscious. The artwork emerges as a silent scream of being. In this context, the creative act is a visceral process, in which the artist struggles with matter, with technique, to bring to light what is deeply rooted in their psyche.

"UNTITLED, WHO AM I?" questions the relationship between the artist's identity and the masks they wear through their art. The work becomes a "mask" that the artist chooses to either hide behind or partially reveal themselves through. This concept leads us to reflect on identity as a fluid and mutable construct. Art, like identity, is never fixed but in constant metamorphosis, and the artist is both subject and object, creator and creature. The exhibition invites the viewer to actively participate in the process of discovering the artist's identity. Like a game of mirrors, the observer sees reflected not only the artist's soul but also fragments of their own self. "Who am I?" becomes a question that resonates with the viewer as well, creating an intimate and reciprocal connection between the artwork, the artist, and the public.
