Bio

I was born in 1992. I grew up in California and have always loved to draw. I was influenced a lot by music that strays from typical song formats, and I am very attracted to abstract forms and symbolism, both in music and visual arts. Growing up I really loved martial arts, gymnastics, and similar performing arts. My interests developed more in the areas of mathematics and computer science as I became a young adult, and much of my artwork tends to be some kind of combination of those passions.

I am both a programmer, and a person who loves the purity of the performing arts. My goal is to draw these things together in composition, and ultimately in the form of a live performance. In my piece "Cycles in the Search for Completeness", I try to address the various stages in the decomposition of identity that people, or at least myself, tend to experience growing up, or perhaps for some of us, growing inward, constantly changing our sense of what is "up". The spiral tries to reach full circle, but can never achieve it until you, or in the video as I tried to show, the "U", fully distorts and becomes unrecognizable. The United States in general I feel is going through a macrocosm of this identity crisis, so I incorporated some imagery toward the middle of the video of the continental United States warping and morphing. In this piece I try to capture that sense of identity formation and dissolution in the small, and in the large.
In my work I try to develop a visual trace of my subconscious mental processes, and the key to doing that is to be lead by thoughtless intuition at times -the felt reality. However my approach is completed dictated by what I am able to produce in my medium of primarily algorithmic processes. This is somewhat true of any artist ultimately, as one must develop a way to work with a medium and allow it to direct them in their choices, and algorithms and simulations are basically generalizations of physical processes. I try to harness a balance between logic and intuition, and accomplishing a sense of reconciliation between the two is what I find makes art theraputic. I also do work involving music directly through sound reactivity, as well as in composition design, and motion capture using webcams in a real 3D environment.
