This work was inspired by the legend of Korean red plum blossoms. Once upon a time, A king loved a woman who works in the palace, her name is ‘maehwa’ (plum blossom) but, she was executed for treason by jealous people. Later, the king hated her and told the people to get rid of all the plum trees in the country. At this time, a girl in the countryside secretly grew plum trees in violation of the king’s orders. Eventually, she was dis-covered and questioned, and she insisted that this tree is not plum flower, but red plum flower. So, officials waited for the tree to bloom to confirm this. Meanwhile, the girl poked her fingertips every night and spilled blood on the buds of plum blossoms. Eventually, she died of excessive bleeding. Surprisingly, however, red plum blossoms bloomed in the tree. ( A legend-ary source: 매화 / 이어령 responsibility editor, p88) I found a red plum flow-er that heralds the spring of Korea. I was fascinated by the light and worked it. It comforts the souls of two women.
