I painted this work because I was attracted to the idea of transience. This is the scene in Bougival where the protagonist Marguerite and the young Armand spent time together from "La Dame aux camélias" by Dumas fils. The disruption of their lives and the separation that comes afterwards make this scene sad and wistful.
