“I Don’t Know If Dance Itself Can Make Change, But I Know We Can Make Change“
Victory and Marvel from the Ebinum Brothers, learned how to dance on their own, developing their own expressive style. Growing up in Lagos, Nigeria. They said: “It was very difficult for pe-ople to actually accept us. But right now it’s changing, because I think people see the impact that we’re making in the world.“
Through and beyond their choreography, the duo has always honed in on themes that matter to them: racism, mental health, the planet. Themes that naturally, agonizingly, overlap.
My name is Istepan Obsidian and i follow the video art of Victory and Marvel since the begin-ning.
They touched and thrilled me, with their movement of dance, esthetic, simpleness and the testi-mony. I’ve never seen something beautiful like this before. Then I was starting to paint a portrait of them with the title: “The Grace Of Dance“. Shortly afterwards the Brothers contacted and asked me to work together for their new video project: “A Beautiful Life“
Now, a dream came true. In “The Grace Of Dance“ I wanted to show their emotions of dancing, in their eyes.
