Tataya Akekashi
Painter
Bio
2001, Tataya Akekashi was born in Saga Prefecture, Japan. She grew up hearing about various artists from her aunt who often worked abroad. Akekashi was influenced by expressionist paint-ers. Or Peter Doig, and Luc Tuymans. She is currently studying Japanese painting at the Faculty of Art and Regional Design at Saga University. She uses Japanese painting materials to com-bine the textures of Western painting with those of Japanese painting on the Japanese paper. Her work focuses primarily on the theme of memory. She experienced severe forgetfulness due to stress between junior high and high school, which led her to paint memories she did not want to forget. One day we all forget and be forgotten. She paints in order not to forget or be forgotten, even if only a little. She hopes that seeing her work will be an opportunity for each of us to remember our precious memories. Her work has become more personal and open to oth-ers' interpretations through studying Japanese painting and confronting her own artwork. This work is a major turning point in her career.
