Bio
Michelle Bond was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. She immigrated to San Francis-co in 1980. She writes poetry, plays music, paints, and sketches during her free time. Growing up in a musically inclined family, her artwork is influenced by Picasso, Kandinsky, Miro, and Dali. Her paintings are lyrical, sometimes dark but playful and abstract with a thematic sense of realism. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from San Francisco State University with an emphasis on Printmaking and Painting in 1996. Ten years later, she finished her master’s in landscape architecture at UC Berkeley. Today, she divides her time designing and installing gardens and landscapes while she continues her artwork in her design/art studio in San Francisco California.

Artist Statement
When I am in the studio, making art, I am at play. Play can be fun, challenging, confusing, frustrating, liberating and revealing. Often, I find myself strategizing mindlessly on a can-vas or paper that takes me into a meditative state. A state where I find myself within a por-tal creating stories and thoughts. Stories that play with the mind and provokes emotions deep in me. Sometimes I feel like a fish swimming in deep waters in a dream with many chambers of realities bursting out into the open ocean. The state of mind is so vast and infinite, I want to keep on discovering what’s beyond. I swim with strokes of color and line breathing effortlessly with a mission to construct. This realm is so real, it grabs my every need and desire to not drown, but to float and breath the oxygen I can never find any-where else. This is my vessel in which I create art.
