Abby Deubler’s paintings are a form of self-exploration and reflect the changing relation-ship she has with her body and mind. She perceives and defines herself using the canvas. Her early work represents the human experience through interpretation of the figure. Her pieces show contorted fragments of the body, conveying an unease with existence in the world. In contrast, recent works have become more abstract and less beholden to the fig-ure, relating the human form to other organic matter on the planet, while also document-ing the evolution of her self-image. Abby’s idea of the human experience has expanded to something harder to contain within the finite shapes of the body. Each piece is a mo-ment in time, a feeling or thought, indescribable except within the realm of a painting. “I have moved beyond the simplicity of the human form and towards understanding myself in the abstract - as an experience moving through a complicated world”.
