This karakuri doll is unique because its face changes in an instant.
The chest part can be opened and, by manipulating the strings, the black mask of an old man hidden in the chest is put on the face of a young white man.
Like me, there is probably more than one person who changes face (facial expression) depending on the occasion or interlocutor. I created this work with the idea that it would be nice to be able to show my true self, regardless of whether it is inside or outside, as in this image.
