Risk Conscious

2020

Info

Size: 100 x 100 cm
Technique: Oil painting

“Risk Conscious” depicts a swimmer standing at the edge of a pool, dressed in a deep purple swimsuit and a tight black swim cap. Her body is poised in a moment of tension—caught between determination and hesitation. Beneath her, a gigantic tentacle emerges from the water, introducing an overwhelming, almost surreal sense of threat.
The work deliberately navigates the boundary between reality and imagination: Is the danger real, or is it a projection of fear? Is the creature a manifestation of inner doubt, an illusion, or an actual obstacle? The moment before the jump becomes a metaphor for existential decision-making. The background is composed of deep purple and neon pink tones, intensifying the unsettling, almost claustrophobic atmosphere and amplifying the psychological tension within the scene. These colors reinforce the emotional state of uncertainty and latent danger. The composition captures a familiar human experience: standing at the threshold of risk—particularly in a professional context, during phases of transition, uncertainty, or reinvention.
With autobiographical undertones, the piece explores themes of courage, intuition, and survival instinct. It raises a central question: Should one trust their inner voice and take the leap, despite the fear of being “consumed”?
“Risk Conscious” functions as a visual metaphor for precarious life situations that initially seem insurmountable. At the same time, it points to the hidden capacities within us—ambition, resilience, and the will to survive. In moments of greatest uncertainty, unexpected strengths can emerge, enabling us to overcome even the most daunting obstacles.
