My name is Aya Najib, I am a self-taught young artist trying to understand the world and have explored what it means to create and understand art for many years. My understanding began with a certain documentary
“I needed colour”. Jim Carrey said this during a gloomy winter evening because he needed colour to brighten his surroundings by expressing emotion through colour is something that I constantly strive to explore in my work, as well as creating my own unique visual language.
This development has allowed me to explore a variety of mediums such as animation, digital paintings, collages and graphic design.
I am fascinated by how communication in the media plays a huge role in contemporary society. My work connects animation with visual storytelling, where I explore how honesty and corruption are articulated in visually curious ways. I recently completed an animated short film, involved in three film festivals. It explores the destruction of sea life through 2D animation and presents the corrupted fate of ‘The Red Turtle’. This presents different realities: the ocean against Pollution. I continuously juxtaposed the colours red and blue in the portrayal of the effect of pollution. Therefore, dramatically making an overall core of sadness throughout this short film, but still acknowledging an open sea for the turtle as a memorable scene.
My work explores the state of society and the state of wellbeing communicating through visual language and colour theory. My work connects animation with visual storytelling, where I explore how honesty and corruption are articulated in visually curious ways. to express different perspectives and current affairs.
