"Below the Surface", the new international group exhibition hosted by M.A.D.S. Art Gallery, invites the public to look beyond appearances, exploring what lies beneath visible reality. Starting from the idea that what we see is only a part of a much more complex whole, the artists in the exhibition explore the hidden layers of existence — nature, emotions, memory, and social structures. The exhibition is an invitation to immerse oneself in the invisible, the subtle, the unsaid, to discover new layers of meaning and connection.

EXHIBITION

Despite technological advances, many nuances of the human experience remain invisible, such as emotions, thoughts, desires and trauma. “Below the Surface” seeks to lift the veil on the invisible, challenging the audience to reflect on the aspects of the world that we often ignore. Art, here, plays the role of connecting the body and mind with the outside world, bringing intimacy and the invisible to the surface through visual language. Arts becomes an exploration of perception as a creative act, serving as a tool to “see” what we do not normally see and helping us to better understand the complexity of our surroundings: not only trying to uncover what is hidden, but also encouraging the audience to wonder how far we are willing to look and see beyond appearances.

The artists involved, using various media (painting, sculpture, video art, photography etc.) are called to challenge traditional conventions of visual perception and explore the relationship between what we see and what we don’t see. "Below the Surface" will be conceived as a sensory journey, stimulating the public to activate not only their sight but also their imagination, inviting them to enter the world of the invisible, because what we don't see is often the largest part of who we are...
