Description
The Ancestral Wireless Connection collection seeks to reflect on the ways in which we communicate wirelessly with and spiritually orient ourselves through our ancestors, with the aim of preserving the memory of our culture and absorbing the fundamental knowledge necessary for our growth. The collection is a singular concept that calls for the appreciation of the endogenous elements of Angolan culture and for the acceptance of cultural identity rooted in our origins and traditions—traditions that were ostracized during the long colonial night, in which art emerges as a wireless channel of connection. At a time when history and its painful memories are being revisited, art becomes a gentle language that allows us to interpret and reinterpret, to document and remember, that communication, just as it exists today in its wireless form, has always existed long before the pre-colonial period, at an exceptionally profound spiritual and physical level within Angolan society and, more broadly, across Africa. The works in the Ancestral Wireless Connection collection were created using acrylic paint on pages taken from an official catalogue of FENACULT – the National Culture Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture of Angola in 2014.
